Debbie Urquhart Calls for Water Saving
Friday, 19 July 2019 19:56

Water is a valuable resource that we are fortunate to have – but it cannot be taken for granted. Due to climate change and the extreme weather that comes with it, we all need to ensure that water is being saved wherever possible.

West Sussex County Council is encouraging residents and businesses to revisit ways they can help save water as part of its ‘West Sussex Climate Pledge’ online campaign, which launched last month.

Deborah Urquhart, West Sussex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “Here in the UK, we have less available water per person than most other European countries, which highlights the importance of making small changes around the way we use this resource.

“Climate change is an issue that affects us all, but we all have an opportunity to make a difference and prevent further damage. Our Climate Pledge campaign is currently focusing on promoting water saving advice and tips – please get involved and show your support by signing-up.”

Saving water doesn’t have to be difficult – you can make simple changes around your home, such as:

• Ditching the hosepipe and using a bucket and sponge to wash your car;
• Only filling the kettle with as much water as you need;
• Taking one minute off your shower time;
• Watering your plants early in the morning or late in the evening to help minimise the amount moisture lost through evaporation;
• Washing your fruit and vegetables in a bowl instead of under a running tap.

Remember - every drop saved counts.
